I Do Not Belong

When the first bomb fell
upon the town where I was born
I was still a child

I felt belonging

The house, the yard,
the view I knew so well,
the bench and Julia

That cursed bomb knew
this was the beginning
of what was the end
of a beautiful childhood

Since then
I no longer belong

I was blessed by life,
children, grandchildren
the never ending love
which flows between us

But my childhood sorroundings
had disappeared
they exist no longer

I do not belong

Without roots
segregated in my loneliness
in spite of all that's dear to me

I do not belong

even to myself
